A Cooperative Society and Human Interest Non-Governmental Organization, Greater Bayelsa, has
stressed the need for Bayelsans to play their role in the promotion of good governance and
socio-economic development of the state.
Shepherd -General of the
organization, Mr. Pudigha Nathan Owotorufa, stated this in Yenagoa, while addressing newly
inducted District Shepherds and Executive Members.
Director of Corporate
Communications of the organization, Dr. Pere-Ere Enock-Etimighan in a statement, quoted the
Shepherd-General to have also said that when citizens play their roles effectively, they can
have the morality to hold the government accountable on their mandate.
While charging the new
inductees to live up to expectations, he warned against unnecessarily antagonizing the government,
emphasizing that the goal of the organisation is to promote good governance in the state.
He said: "Rather than
antagonize the government it is better to support them to build a better Bayelsa. More so, the
current government has what it takes to support the ideals of this organisation, therefore, it
is in the best interest of this organisation to throw their weight behind His Excellency, Senator
Douye Diri, especially his re-election bid. You have the power in your hands which is your
electoral value.
"Let me announce that the
governor has acknowledged the organisation and made a commitment that, he loves the ideals of the
organisation being a cooperative.
"I therefore charge you
all to be apostles of the organisation, saddled with the responsibility of propagating the ideals
to the grassroots. It took a lot to assemble you all, not because you are the best, but grace and
opportunity has found you.
"I encourage you to work
in total tolerance of each other because you all are from different backgrounds", he added
Owotorufa, took time to
explain the organogram of the organisation, saying "the event marked a significant milestone in the
commitment of members to fostering leadership and development within the Greater Bayelsa Community".
He also outlined the core
values, vision and mission statement of the organisation, and advised members to be selfless in
their commitment, knowing that it is a voluntary service and selfless sacrifice to humanity.
The Shepherd-General equally
explained the duties and responsibilities of members and how they should bring their wealth of
experience, work collaboratively to drive the organization's initiatives and projects.
Climax of the event was oath
of office administration by Barrister Owo Azibanagbal, the legal adviser, on the District Shepherds
and Executive Members; and the collection of appointment letters.
